YAVATMAL, May 8, 2009 (T O Abraham): Amitkumar Rathod has proved that sheer will power and commitment can help conquer all odds. Born in a nondescript Banjara Tanda called
Yermal Hetti in Arni tehsil, Yavatmal district, Amitkumar cleared UPSC examination bagging 200th position in all India ranking on Monday.

Son of Bharat and Chhaya Rathod, Amitkumar cleared the exam in his maiden attempt. He completed his schooling from Vivekanand School, Yavatmal and went on to pursue his BSc degree course from Mumbai-based Amolakchand College.

Attributing the success to his parents and sister Pallavi, Amitkumar said, "In my community, many talented students are deprived of the opportunity to pursue their goals only due to poor financial conditions and illiteracy. I will make a sincere effort to provide them guidance and help talented youth from nomadic Banjara tribe to pursue their goals." (With thanks from "The Times of India")
