Chief Guest of the Banjara Workers Conference was Shri Gopinath Munde, General Secretary of Bhartiya Janta Party. Addressing the great gathering of Rajasthan Banjaras, Shri Gopinath Munde said, 9 Crore Banjaras of the Country awakened now. He said, Banjaras Known by different names in different states like Lamani, Lambadi, Bangala, Vanjari, Bazigar, Banjara Bhaat, Goaar, Gawar, Sirkiband, Gola, Gormaati, Lambada, Lavani, Sugali and many more.
It is a starting from Rajasthan. We won in the Rajasthan, now rest of the country is our target. In future, Banjaras will succeed to achieve their rights and privileges. Shri Gopinath Munde said it is not a political gathering, it is a Social Awareness Gathering. He said I am happy to see a huge gathering of Banjaras on the notice of very short time. Now no doubt to accept "Jaag Utha Banjara". He assured from BJP, in coming elections, more Banjaras will get tickets.

Cheif Guest Mr. Gopi Nath Munde, Ex Deputy Cheif Minister of Maharastra, State Incharge of Rajasthan BJP, said that present government is ready for Social Justices. He proudly announced that I am Goaar-son and every moment, I am  ready for Goaar welfare.

Jaipur Banjara Conference Hall was full with the traditional Banjaras. The traditional Banjara men wear a dhoti, a wrinkled coat and turban – looked austere like that of any Indian villager. The Banjara women, however, are holding steadfast to their ancient mode of dress which is perhaps the most colourful and elaborate of any tribal group in India. Undoubtedly, their dress and jewellery sets them apart from all others.

Their full length skirt, is blazing red with borders embroidered in mustard and green thread. The odhni (mantle) which covers the head is long enough to drape down their backs almost touching the feet. This also elaborately embroidered and studded with little mirrors which embellish their cholis (blouses). A variety of materials – silver, brass, some gold, cowries, ivory, animal bone and even plastic – are used in the making of a Banjara wardrobe. The women wear pretty silver anklets which clink as they walk barefoot. Long silver ear-rings are conspicuous and patterned cowries decorate their plaits of hair.

National President AIBSS Mr. M. Shanker Naik said  that Goaars of every state of India make their major emphasis on education. Every Banjara of India shall do hard work to live with good characteristics.

Dr. M. Shankar Naik, President of All India Banjara Seva Sangh throw some light on the history of Banjaras. He said in his speech that Banjaras were a community much more in evidence all over India thousand of years from now. In fact, Banjaras were called the exporters of grain, salt and other goods to distant provinces and regions of the country. Essentially, Banjaras were a numerically larger community, operating on a much larger scale, traversing a much larger geographic area. In the period of Raja and Maharajas they however earn their bread and butter by hard working and doing ladeni work.

In British period due to deforestation, industrialization and mammoth constructions work they used to get works of labour and loaders. But in the later stage due to advent of machine age and cutting of jungle and increasing dependency on machines by the British these people became jobless. By working in different areas and settling in those areas they became no longer nomadic and bereft of their earlier occupations.

He said The traditional food of Banjaras is Baati which is Roti. Their customs, language and dress indicate that they are originated from Rajasthan.

Their traditional occupation is agriculture and trade. The accurate history of Banjaras is not known but the general opinion among them is that they fought for Prithivi Raj Chauhan against Mehmood Ghaznavi. The trail of the Banjara can be verified from their language. Gor Boli borrows words from Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi and the Local language of the area to whom they belongs.

President Dr. M. Shankar Naik said, All India Banjara Seva Sangh requests all Banjaras that they should be active member of the Sangh, make regular interactions with the people of Banjara Society at their local level, make them aware about the various programmes of the Government and the activities of All India Banjara Seva Sangh.

In the end of his speech, Dr. M. Shankar Naik suggested that if we start the relation of Baati and Beti among all kind of Banjaras, then the progress of Banjaras, no one can stop. He said only unity is the main formula of progress of Banjaras. With the relation of Baati and Beti we come close to each other. Gathering of Rajasthan Banjaras, welcomed his sugesstion with acceptance.

Mr.  K. G. Banjara  said that  we all types of  Banjaras are one. He said that Banjaras of Rajasthan will honour Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mrs. Vasundhra Raje at Paali city very soon because she fulfill the long time demand of Banjaras.

Sardar Charan Singh Nayak, President, Baba Lakhi Shah Banjara Foundation, Mujaffarnagar, Uttranchal and Uttranchal State President of AIBSS said that the "Chetna Lehar" started from Rajasthan will cover all India. Sardar Charan Singh Nayak told the gathering of Banjaras that on September 28, 2008 Uttranchal Unit of AIBSS will organise "Banjara Convention" at Sidharath Palace, Patel Nagar, Dehradun.

Mr. Om Prakash Nayak, Ex State Minister of Utter Pradesh also adressed the meeting and said that the present government is done welfare work for Banjara Samaj, specially Banjara Awaas Yojna (Residential plots for 2000 Banjaras) in Jodhpur. He stressed more welfare work for Banjaras is expected from Mrs. Raje Government.

Mr. Sita Ram Banjara (Wartia) Cashier of Rajasthan Unit of AIBSS described about Banjara Awaas Yojna and reqested to Mr. Munde that some corrigendum is required in term of Banjara name. He said as per order that this yojana is for Banjara only. We want that in Rajasthan Banjaras also known as Giwaria, Bhatt, Lambana, Bamania Banjara, Bazigar and many other names. So we want that all these sub names of Banjara are treated as Banjara and then every Banjara will be benefitted.

Shri Surjan Lal Pawar (Ex Councillor) from New Delhi attending Banjara Kranti Dal Rally

Mumbai, August 21, 2008 (UNI): Hundreds of people belonging to Nomadic Tribes, led by MP Haribhau Rathod, today organised a rally at Azad Maidan here to press for their demand of accepting recommendations, made by Balkrishna Renke Commission to the central government.

Addressing the rally, Mr Rathod said the government should accept the recommendations of the Commission, which has suggested modification in the constitution to create a third scheduled caste so that members of 'Nomadic Tribes' community will get all the benefits as given to the members of scheduled caste. Mr Rathod said he had already raised the issue on the floor of the House and is likely to come up for discussion in forthcoming Parliament session. Despite the country having completed 61 years of independance, development of Nomadic Tribes was not upto the mark. The members of the community are still living below proverty line across the country, he said. The Commission has recommended ten per cent reservation in job, modification in the constitution and to create a third list of caste, reserving 25 per cent houses for nomadic tribes, under the Indira Avash Gharkul, construction of Ashram Schools and houses for them in the urban areas.  (With thanks from webindia123.com)

Haribhau Rathod Ki Khari- Khari:

Implement Renke Commissions's Report, then I will join Congress

Mumbai, August 21, 2008 (UNI):The expelled BJP MP from Yavatmal Haribhau Rathod today declared that he is ready to join the Congress only if the UPA Government implements the Balkrishna Renke Commission's report for the Nomadic Tribes.

Speaking at a Rally of Nomadic Tribes in Azad Maidan Mumbai today, Mr Haribhau Rathod, said the Maharashtra government had already given several concessions to VJNT on par with SC and ST but the same were lacking all over India.

He said all over the country, at least 15 crore people fall under this category.

He said Bazigar, Sirkiband, Dhangar, Banjara, Bhoi, Wadar and such Nomadic Tribes fall in the VJNT category. ''If the UPA Government will implement the Renke report, then and then only I will join them,'' said Mr Rathod. ( With thanks from webindia123.com)

Press Release by Rashtriya Banjara Kranti Dal: Rashtriya Banjara Kranti Dal is going to organize  a mammoth rally of Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) of the country on 21st August, 2008 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai to show their solidarity and support  to Shri. Hari Bhau Rathod, Member of parliament and President, ABBKD. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh and other prominent leaders will address this rally. Shri Balkrishna Renke, Chairman, National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes; Shri S. Rajan, Leder of Lodhi Samaj, Shri Ramesh Pal ji, leader of Gadria from Uttar Pradesh, Shri Choksingh Beghel, Laman Patani, Laxman Gaikwad and many other prominent leader will address this rally.

It is quite some time now that Shri Balkrishna Renke, Chairman, National Commission for Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes has submitted its report to the Government. People belonging to DNTs are eager to have their issues settled by the Government immediately. It is the time now to take a final decision on the recommendations of the Renke Commission without further delay to render justice to 15 crores people of Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes for which they are waiting for long time.

There are still doubts in some peoples’ mind why I supported the UPA Government during the Vote of Confidence in Parliament. I did support the Government for three reasons.

Firstly, for the interest of Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes. I have devoted my life for the cause of this most backward community of the country. Priority of my life is their welfare and upliftment in the society. Even before I became Member of Parliament, I was instrumental for the cause of this community. During last four years I had several meetings with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble President, Smt. Meira Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and other concerned Ministers to get justice for the most backward community of the country, i.e. DNTs. After several meetings with them as well as due to my personal and sincere efforts, Government establishment National  Commission for Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes for study of the status of DNTs and submission of its recommendation to the Government for social and economic upliftment of DNTs. On 2nd July, 2008 just before the Vote of Confidence, the Commission submitted its report to the Government which is under active consideration of the Government now.

So, continuance of UPA Government is utmost necessary so that this Government can implement the report of the Renke Commission. After Vote of Confidence I met personally with Hon’ble Rashtrapati Ji, Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Shri Ahmed Patel Ji, Hon’ble Shri. Rahul Gandhi Ji, all of whom assured me that recommendations of Renke Commission will be considered and implemented in shortest possible time.

Secondly, I personally feel that Nuclear Deal is an important issue and I should help the Government so that the deal can be materialized. And lastly, as I respect Dr. Manmohan Singh as my elder brother, since Lakh Sah Banjara (a religions leader of Banjaras) was from the same community and he donated  his lands for construction of Rakab Ganj Gurdwara and adjacent parliament House, etc. So, to uphold the respect of Pagri I supported Dr. Manmohan Singh during Vote of Confidence.

After Vote of Confidence, for the first time, when I went to Mumbai on 5th August, 2008, I was received by a huge crowd at Santa Cruz Airport and when I reached Mulund West on the same day to address a conference of my followers at Kalidas Natya Gruha I found a huge gathering of public supporting me. I was also covered by tight security during my tour to Aurangabad, Amravati, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Yavatmal, Washim and Dhule. Wherever I went, I got huge support from the people belonging to DNTs. All DNT people are happy and supported my act during the Vote of Confidence and to show their support to me they decided to organize this rally.

I am confident, on 21st August, 2008, there will be a unprecedented mammoth rally of denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes in Mumbai, which will be written in the history of India.

I, therefore, request all TV channels to arrange live coverage of the above mentioned rally on 21st August, 2008 in Mumbai  and make the people of the country aware about present socio-economic conditions of Denotified Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes.
Haribhau Rathod, MP & President, Rashtriya Banjara Kranti Dal
